What is the best way to clean the string art pictures?

String art pictures from WireStyle do not normally need to be cleaned as the strings hardly collect any dust. If you would like to clean your picture anyway, we describe here how best to do it:

1. Dust removal

Vacuum cleaner: Since the strings used by WireStyle are made of polyester and are also extremely thin, hardly any dust accumulates on them. Several customers have told us that there is no dust even on 3 year old pictures. If dust does accumulate on the strings, it can be easily removed with a vacuum cleaner and a wide upholstery nozzle without bristles. To do this, run the upholstery nozzle over the nails with little pressure. The string is so tightly stretched that it will not be pulled out of the picture, even if the vacuum cleaner is set to the highest setting.

Compressed air: If available, the picture can also be blown off with compressed air from a compressor or a can of compressed air. This is how we clean the string art pictures after production before they are packaged. You should not get too close to the string with the nozzle to avoid moving it. You can't blow it out of the picture, but the picture will no longer look as three-dimensional if you push it completely down onto the plate. 

2. Cleaning the plate and frame

Base plate: With WireStyle, the base plate is made of polystyrene. This has the advantage over wood that the material does not absorb moisture and cannot soak up water. The plate can therefore be wiped with a damp cloth, e.g. made of microfiber or cotton. Soap or window cleaner can also be used for more stubborn stains. A soft eraser is also suitable for cleaning the panel if the dirt cannot be removed with a damp cloth. It is just important not to apply too much pressure, otherwise you can rub shiny spots into the base plate. For very heavy soiling, such as paint from felt-tip pens, you can also use alcohol or white spirit. The white base plate is resistant to alcohol.
