How are the string art pictures best cleaned?
WireStyle string art pictures usually do not need to be cleaned, as the threads hardly collect dust. If you do want to clean your picture, here's how to do it best:
1. Dust removal
Vacuum cleaner: Since the threads used by WireStyle are made of polyester and are also extremely thin, hardly any dust accumulates on them. Several customers have told us that even on 3-year-old pictures, no dust is visible. If dust should accumulate on the threads, it can be easily removed with a vacuum cleaner and a wide upholstery nozzle without bristles. To do this, move the upholstery nozzle with light pressure over the nails. The thread is stretched so tightly that it will not be pulled out of the picture, even if the vacuum cleaner is set to the highest level.
Compressed air: If available, the picture can also be blown off with compressed air from a compressor or a can of compressed air. This is how the string art pictures are cleaned by us after production before they are packed. The nozzle should not be too close to the thread so as not to shift it. You cannot blow it out of the picture, but the picture will no longer look as three-dimensional if you push it completely down onto the plate.
2. Cleaning the plate and the frame
Base plate: WireStyle's base plate is made of polystyrene. This has the advantage over wood that the material does not absorb moisture and no water can penetrate. Therefore, the plate can be wiped with a damp cloth, e.g. made of microfiber or cotton. For stubborn dirt, you can also use soap or window cleaner. A soft eraser is also suitable for cleaning the plate if the dirt cannot be removed with a damp cloth. The only important thing is not to apply too much pressure, otherwise you can rub shiny spots into the base plate. For very heavy soiling, such as paint from felt-tip pens, you can also use alcohol or methylated spirits. The white base plate is resistant to alcohol.
Frame: Our frame is made of black anodized aluminum. This surface is very resistant to chemicals and can be cleaned with any normal household cleaner. If in doubt, just try using a cloth with window cleaner, which will remove all normal dirt.
