Do you also sell string art DIY sets?

A string art picture is made by multiple people by hand with a DIY set

Would you like to make a string art picture yourself at home? Then you can either buy all the materials yourself or you can buy a DIY set that already contains all the materials you need.

We thought long and hard about whether we should sell our WireStyle string art pictures as DIY kits, as we produce thousands of our self-made nails every day and have strings, frames and base plates in stock. Nevertheless, we have come to the conclusion not to offer DIY sets. The reasons for this are simple:

Why we don't offer DIY sets ourselves

1. Too many nails

The special thing about our pictures is the extremely high number of nails. A large picture contains around 8000 nails, a panoramic picture contains around 12,000 nails. Although there are people with great patience who can process such a large number of nails without going mad, it is almost impossible to find the right nail again. Each nail would have to be labeled with a number from 1 to 12,000 and a large table would have to be used to go through all the nails in the correct order. As the string passes each nail up to 10 times, this table would have around 100,000 entries. What is no problem for our self-developed robot is not well suited to being carried out by a human.

2. Nails without heads

Our heads deliberately have no heads. The reason is very simple: without heads you get a much better image quality when the nails are very close together. The heads would obscure a large part of the string. Without nail heads, the string is more visible and the image looks more detailed. As our images have been optimized for photorealistic quality, we achieve the best image quality with headless nails. Our robot stretches the string so tightly around the nails that it cannot slip off. We control the height of the string above the plate so precisely that we never lay the string too far or too low and at the same time do not collide with the already laid string when the new string path crosses the old string path.

By hand, it is impossible to control the string tension so precisely and keep the height so constant, so the string would often slip off the nails. This is why all artists who make string art thread pictures by hand always use nails with heads.

3. too little distance between the nails

To make the string art picture look photorealistic, we place our nails as close together as possible. This means that the minimum distance between 2 nails is only approx. 5 mm. It is no problem for our robot to get between these closely spaced nails, but it is almost impossible to lay the string by hand.

Suppliers of DIY sets

Fortunately, there are various suppliers of high-quality DIY sets for making string art pictures yourself, such as Sandra from Fadenbild.com

DIY sets

Sandra, for example, sells ready-made DIY sets that contain all the materials you need to make your own string art picture at home.

Finished pictures

In addition to DIY sets, Sandra also offers ready-made pictures that you can hang up directly. These pictures have far fewer nails than the string art pictures from WireStyle and are therefore not photorealistic, but they are 100% handmade and available in several string colors. You can also find pictures on round wooden panels, for example.

Workshops

If you don't feel confident enough to make your first string art picture all by yourself, you can also book workshops with Sandra. There you can make a string art picture under professional guidance and at the same time get to know other people who are also interested in string art pictures. These workshops are also ideal for children's birthdays, company parties, hen parties and other occasions.

Materials such as strings and spools of thread are placed on a table and used to create string art pictures.

After the birth of her second child in 2018, she decided to reorient herself professionally and be more flexible. She started her own business with string art pictures. During this time, she also came up with the idea for DIY craft kits and workshops.
